Bonjour Tendresse is a fragrance inspired by the feeling of tenderness.

It was composed like an embrace. When life seems to move from one misadventure to the next, sometimes the only thing left to do is let small, salty tears fall silently onto a pillow or onto the shoulder of a loved one’s shirt.

And yet, at the heart of the storm, an infinite softness emerges—the feeling of being held tightly in the arms of someone you love, where all the tenderness in the world seems to gather.

The fragrance first evokes the comforting image of clean laundry—a feeling of safety, care, and reassurance. To create this fresh, laundry-inspired accord, aldehydes bring a clean, powdery impression reminiscent of soap bubbles, while musks add the softness of a cherished comfort blanket. Among them is Helvetolide, a refined and gentle musk molecule that is both recycled and renewable. Italian iris butter further enhances the powdery character, lending the composition an elegant refinement.

Within this clean-linen accord lies another image: salty tears rolling down the cheeks and onto the sheets. This sensation is expressed through the “tears” of Somali frankincense, combined with marine and mineral notes and Philippine elemi essential oil to delicately evoke a damp, subtly salty facet.

Eventually, the tears dissolve into the comfort of Ambrox. Inspired by the scent of ambergris and now recreated entirely through modern perfumery, this molecule evokes the indescribable scent of a loved one’s skin—intoxicating yet deeply reassuring.

Finally, sandalwood essential oil transforms comfort into tenderness. Creamy, warm, and softly milky, it envelops the skin like a cup of warm milk, while its grounded woody character offers something steady to lean on—a balm-like sensation of comfort and restoration.

The fragrances of Bontemps Paris are created by the brand’s co-founder and perfumer, Florian Gallo. A perfumer at dsm-firmenich, Gallo has helped shape Bontemps’ distinctive olfactory language, drawing on emotions and everyday experiences to translate feelings that are difficult to put into words into scent.

The debut collection, Les Joies et Les Peines, explores the joys and sorrows of life through three emotions—nostalgia, tenderness, and courage—expressed respectively through Amoureux du Temps, Bonjour Tendresse, and Le Grand Saut.

In Gallo’s work, natural ingredients meet contemporary aroma molecules, including materials derived from recycled and sustainable sources, balancing emotional storytelling with precise formulation. For Bontemps, perfumery is more than the composition of aromatic materials; it is another language through which memories, emotions, and moments of everyday life can be made tangible.

Founded in Paris in 2023, Bontemps Paris is an independent brand devoted to perfume culture, existing between a fragrance media platform and a house of fine fragrance.

Guided by the idea of “sharing the time of perfume and conveying the scent of time,” Bontemps explores the materials, craftsmanship, creators and emotions behind perfumery through words, imagery and scent, gradually transforming its olfactory narratives into fragrances of its own.
